We love seeing local businesses doing their part to protect our lovely County, or improve the way they work to be more sustainable so we are particularly impressed with the efforts of Norwich Paddleboard Hire.

They have monthly ‘River Clean’ sessions and also offer a cash-back system for the collection of any rubbish found in the river or beach during your hire: £1 per piece of rubbish up to a limit of £5.

Recently the member of parliament for Norwich South, Clive Lewis, joined them for one of their monthly river cleans and to discuss how we can protect the waterways that we all care about so much.

The team highlighted to Clive the amount of rubbish that accumulates, particularly during summer and BBQ seasons, on the river and how it can affect the wildlife. One particularly sad case involved removing plastic bottles that had been used by Swans to build their nests.

Even if litter isn’t being thrown into the river directly, leaving it on the ground for it to be blown into the water is equally as bad and has a massive detrimental effect on the water, adding to plastic pollution overall.

Next month’s river clean date will be announced soon (keep an eye on their socials) and is just £10 for 2.5 hour hire as long as you collect a bag of rubbish.
