In Japan, ‘Momijigari’ is the traditional activity of ‘leaf hunting’ (or ‘leaf peeping’) in the autumn – the act of taking time out to enjoy the colours of the autumn leaves.
And this year you can expect a spectacular display of bright reds, oranges, copper and gold as a warm summer means that trees have produced more sugar in their leaves which will transform them into brighter colours.
We think this is a rather wonderful concept – one we’ve actually been practising ourselves for many years now, without even realising it was a ‘thing’.
We absolutely love passing through Eaton Park in Norwich at this time of the year. The colours of the trees – especially when sunlight catches them – are absolutely stunning. A sight to behold.
An easy and wholesome antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern life, it’s amazingly easy to enjoy a spot of autumn leaf appreciation all over Norfolk. Here are 6 places you’ll see gorgeous autumn leaves in Norfolk right now (and if not, now, soon).
1. Eaton Park in Norwich
As mentioned above. We took this picture around this time a couple of years ago. Say no more…
2. Earlham Park
Just on the edge of Norwich city centre, near the University of East Anglia, this wide open space has woods and walks along the River Yare. Great for a post Sunday lunch stroll and a spot of Momijigari.
3. Norwich city centre and streets.
The streets and avenues around the Golden triangle in Norwich – Unthank Road, Newmarket Road and the roads and avenues around Heigham Park look particularly lovely right now. There are lovely autumn leaves to be enjoyed throughout the city – and the gorgeous backdrop of the Fine City makes for some great photo opportunities.

Lovely woodland paths and walks with lots of autumnal nature to enjoy. 100 acres in fact. Open every day, just off the B1149.
This National Trust estate is amazing at all times of the year as the seasonal changes are so visible and lovely. Lots of trees = lots of leaves.
6. Blickling
Another National Trust place with lots of walks in the natural landscape. Perfect for layering up and strolling out.
If you’re planning an autumnal walk, we’ve got lots of cosy hoodies and snuggly sweaters in our Enjoying Norfolk shop: great for layering up before getting out and about to enjoy the Autumn leaves in Norfolk. All sustainable and organic, in a spectrum of autumnal colours to enjoy.
